Pattern-Driven Modeling and Compression:

UC has developed a suite of compression technologies designed to address specific customer requirements. Included in this suite are the following technologies: pattern-driven content-based image/video compression/modeling; 3D surface modeling and compression; synthetic aperture radar (SAR) despeckling and compression. Compared with traditional compression techniques, UC’s image modeling and compression technology perceives visual data as a collection of regions with distinct patterns and therefore focuses on efficient and effective linear and non-linear modeling methodologies to represent visual patterns using minimal sets of features. Based on this new concept, the intelligent pattern-driven image encoding/decoding software system UC has developed offers superior reconstruction quality and highly efficient compression efficiency. For 3-D image/data, UC’s novel surface (terrain) reconstruction and compression technologies not only provide quality-guaranteed triangular mesh surface modeling for various input image data, but also compact representation of models by efficiently coding both the geometry and connectivity components of the generated models. All these compression technologies are enabling tools for a broad range of commercial and military applications.
