2D/3D Modeling and Visualization: Sponsored by NASA and DHS, UC has developed innovative 2D/3D data modeling and visualization technologies, including automated GIS image registration, feature extraction, and fusion techniques, as well 3-D situational awareness visualization system. UC’s GIS image processing software systems not only achieves full automation of routine GIS tasks such as importing, rectifying and registering newly acquired GIS imagery against existing maps/images (for correction, update, and fusion), but also enable the automatic extraction of multi-story building features/parameters from geo-coded LiDAR, Ortho-photos, and aerial imageries. The benefits of UC’s automatic GIS image processing technologies include great reduction in production time (from days in manual processing to minutes of computer processing), more accurate and reliable results, and user consistency within and across organizations. In addition, UC’s 3-D situational awareness visualization technologies provides decision makers with real-time 3-D information and enables interactive 3-D visualization for identifying, localizing, and tracking people (such as first responders) and resources within the multi-story incident buildings in urban environments. Such 3-D situational awareness software capabilities/technologies will enhance the decision making capabilities of incident-commanders and increase the effectiveness and speed of emergency response, thus saving lives and decreasing costs. |
